  An early monastic "order", the Cistercians were founded from a group of Benedictines who sought to reform the discipline of the community. Continuing to follow the Rule of St. Benedict, the nuns daily commit themselves to Ora et Labora-- prayer and work--through traditional Liturgy of the Hours and supportive work (in the case of Sr. Marie-Pierre's community, the making of alter bread).

May 11, 2025- today is the World Day of Prayer for Vocations! Join us in praying the Glorious mysteries of the Rosary to support vocations, especially those discerning religious life. Each mystery will be led by a representative from a different religious community- from previous episodes and upcoming releases.
Once again I would like to lift up the fantastic work that the Fund for Vocations does making vocations more accessible through financial aid for those who have student debt. They recently released a video of a couple of their grant recipients, which you can find here:

Originally founded on December 12, 1831 in Ireland, the Religious Sisters of Mercy were founded for the service of those who are distressed, especially women and children. Re-founded on September 1, 1973 post Vatican II, the Order in Alma, Michigan strive to praise and share God's Mercy. Their primary apostolate of serving in healthcare, the Sisters seek to uplift the corporeal and spiritual works of mercy. Alongside the evangelical vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, the Sisters take a fourth vow of service to the poor and sick.

"The oldest 'new' vocation," Consecrated Virginity has been around since the beginnings of the Church. As a consecrated virgin Jen Settle gives a brief history of this practice and clarifies some misconceptions about their life. Unlike traditional religious orders who usually have an age limit, Consecrated Virginity is open to women beyond these restrictions. A contemplative (but not cloistered) community, the Sisters of Mary Morning Star are an international community who seek to be missionaries of hope. Not serving within a specific apostolate, the Sisters serve in many different areas centered on prayer. During the day they spend time in contemplative prayer and work, each sister having a workshop for various craft works - their only source of income! Sr. Marie Johannah shares their daily schedule, and also how they incorporate a liturgical weekly schedule structured after the Holy Triduum.
