An early monastic "order", the Cistercians were founded from a group of Benedictines who sought to reform the discipline of the community. Continuing to follow the Rule of St. Benedict, the nuns daily commit themselves to Ora et Labora-- prayer and work--through traditional Liturgy of the Hours and supportive work (in the case of Sr. Marie-Pierre's community, the making of alter bread).

May 11, 2025- today is the World Day of Prayer for Vocations! Join us in praying the Glorious mysteries of the Rosary to support vocations, especially those discerning religious life. Each mystery will be led by a representative from a different religious community- from previous episodes and upcoming releases.
Once again I would like to lift up the fantastic work that the Fund for Vocations does making vocations more accessible through financial aid for those who have student debt. They recently released a video of a couple of their grant recipients, which you can find here:

Originally founded on December 12, 1831 in Ireland, the Religious Sisters of Mercy were founded for the service of those who are distressed, especially women and children. Re-founded on September 1, 1973 post Vatican II, the Order in Alma, Michigan strive to praise and share God's Mercy. Their primary apostolate of serving in healthcare, the Sisters seek to uplift the corporeal and spiritual works of mercy. Alongside the evangelical vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, the Sisters take a fourth vow of service to the poor and sick.

A contemplative (but not cloistered) community, the Sisters of Mary Morning Star are an international community who seek to be missionaries of hope. Not serving within a specific apostolate, the Sisters serve in many different areas centered on prayer. During the day they spend time in contemplative prayer and work, each sister having a workshop for various craft works - their only source of income! Sr. Marie Johannah shares their daily schedule, and also how they incorporate a liturgical weekly schedule structured after the Holy Triduum. You can find a story about their Waco, TX prison ministry at National Catholic Register

Consecrated
Whether you are discerning religious life, are settled into your vocation, or are just wondering what Religious orders are all about, Consecrated interviews men and women who have accepted the call to live a consecrated life. Asking what need the community serves, what daily prayer life looks like, and other specialties of the order, Consecrated seeks to make known the beauty and need for Religious life.
Behind the Scenes and God's Providence
What started as a Youth Learning Challenge project, has blossomed into a witness of God's Love and Providence. The Griptape Youth Learning Challenge is a program designed to give teens the financial resources to pursue a topic of interest, limiting the amount of adult instruction. With the intention of beginning a teen interview-based podcast with time for scripture reflection, I applied and received funds toward my project, which I put toward the purchase of a microphone, headphones, an inexpensive laptop, and a year of podcast hosting on Podbean. Ready to begin my project, I ran into problems in regard to copyright law. Devastated, I was given the suggestion by my mother, to begin a podcast interviewing Religious Orders. My vigor renewed, I began to contact different Orders that I knew of. After several polite responses of unavailability, and sometimes no response at all, I didn't know what to do. I have since learned that God just had different plans for my first few interviews. I made a simple and blunt prayer along the lines of "Okay God, whomever you send me in the mail next, that's who I will contact." We tend to receive mail from different Religious Organizations asking for donations, prayer intentions, and just their published newsletters. Within the week we received four organizations' mail, and after reaching out to them, three accepted my request for an interview. This whole project has been a learning experience, not only in regards to podcasting, but also trusting in God's Greater Plan. I hope that you will continue to join me on this journey.
A SPECIAL THANKS TO THE GRIPTAPE YOUTH LEARNING CHALLENGE, WHOM GOD ALLOWED TO MAKE THIS PROJECT POSSIBLE!
Check out the GripTape website for information about applying for their learning challenge.
