  After taking an extended break from the show, I am happy to present an interview with Fr. Simon, O.S.B. from St. Meinrad Archabbey, St. Meinrad, Indiana. This is the second episode featuring the Benedictine tradition, but because of it's ancient roots, each community is wonderfully unique! St. Meinrad Archabbey was founded to minister to the German-speaking community of South West Indiana, where their seminary (which continues to this day) formed priests to minister within parishes. Fr. Simon, a younger monk of the Archabbey, shares about both the commonalities of the Benedictine way of life and the particulars which make St. Meinrad distinct- along with his dream of becoming a MLB chaplain!!

Unlike most orders, the Priests of the Sacred Heart were not founded with a particular apostolate in mind; they are an community of priests seeking to accompany the people of God. Their founder, Fr. Leo Dehon, wanted to emphasize a spirit of a "never-ending Mass," taking Christ's light throughout the world.

Today I am blessed to share an interview with not one, but TWO sisters from the Sisters of Life. The Sisters' were established to proclaim the dignity of all human life, especially in the context of infants in pregnancy. Founded by Cardinal John O'Connor, he sought to counter the culture of death with the gentle feminine heart. Part of their apostolate includes work with women in crisis pregnancy, even throwing baby showers for the women! They seek to uphold both the dignity of the mother and the child.

Devotion to the Eucharist and Devotion to Mary- these are the pillars of the Mercedarian Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. The Sisters are particularly devoted to Mary under the title Our Lady of Mercy, and have a deep emphasis on redemption. Their primary apostolate is education, where they emphasize Christ's Eucharistic presence to children.

Br. Paolo joins us directly from Assisi, Italy, where St. Francis lived and founded the Order of Friars Minor. Founded to promote unity within the Church, the order wasn't originally a Catholic congregation, but rather converted later! Their primary apostolate is assisting adicts on the way to recovery, and the Friars have a 70% success rate.

Sr. Liz reminds us that God calls a person to be truly themselves in his or her vocation. He didn't call one to be someone he or she is not; He recognizes our humanity, and invites us to holiness in our struggles.

Focused on serving Christ in the poor, the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul were founded at a time when religious sisters were cloistered and upper-class. St. Vincent made it possible for women of all classes could serve out in the world, where they make yearly vows on the Feast of the Annunciation. Sr. Liz gives some of the history of the transition from cloistered to active life in religious communities.

Welcome to Season 3!!!
Founded in 1447, the Third Order Regular of St. Francis branched from the Order of Friars Minor to include priests who desired a penitential way of life. The friars focus on constant conversion of life, living each moment in response to God's grace and mercy. From this mercy flows their emphasis on pursuing the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy.
