Has the Church become like a “single parent” family? Where are our spiritual mothers? How can we help bring them back? These are just a few of the questions Fr. John Burns and other Church figures have begun to ask. Seeking to revitalize, encourage, and support young women discerning a religious vocation, Fr. John Burns’ movement “Friends of the Bridegroom” focuses on helping restore the place of the spiritual mother in the Church.

As this season comes to a close in preparation for the second upcoming season, this is a compilation of the previous guest's introductions and fun facts. These serve as powerful testimonies of the truth that a vocation doesn't mean abandoning yourself entirely, trying to fit into a mold or become what you are not; but rather if it is truly where you are being called, you should blossom and become more fully yourself. That being said, continue to pray for vocations, especially with upcoming National Vocation Awareness Week - November 3-9, 2024 - when the show will return on that Monday!

Third Order Franciscans, the Disciples of Our Lord Jesus Christ are a charismatic community with deep focus on daily conversion. These sisters' apostolate centers on the desire to accompany other people in strengthening a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Beginning with leading the Life in the Spirit seminar, they have broadened their horizons to new ways in which to guide souls into relationship with God. Sr. Ana Chiara reflects on their schedule of prayer as not an "interruption" of their day, but rather the life breath of their day.

"Which order worked with children?" "There was a sister whose apostolate was the elderly. Who was it?" "Which priest really emphasized confession?" Blessed with ten previous interviews, these might be questions people have about the show and which charism belongs to which order! This episode of Consecrated is a compilation of the interviewees, their orders, and their apostolates and charisms, speaking to the individual place each congregation holds in the Kingdom of God.

Throughout the past ten episodes, consecrated men and women have shared how they are called to fulfill their vocation within their community - they have also identified obstacles to discernment. These "roadblocks" are both interior and exterior, but they aren't impassible. This episode highlights vocations discernment advice given in the last eight episodes; observing problems while also identifying ways where growth can take place towards the individualized vocation in which God has invited each person to participate.

Sr. Lillian Emmanuel returns to share about success, not as the world equates it, but as Our Lord gives. With insights on our littleness and weakness as being a source of gratitude, she describes how we are invited to be drawn ever closer to Our Lord and His mission for souls in our sufferings, and how He permits everything only for our good. "Jesus, Mary, I love you - save souls." Inviting us to recognize vocation as a gift, instead of a problem to be solved, Sr. Lillian speaks about beginning discernment with discovering our identity.

Enflamed with love for the True Presence of Christ in the Most Holy Eucharist, the Children of Mary strive to spread the truth about the most beautiful treasure of the Catholic faith. Rooted in frequent Adoration throughout the day, the Sisters are semi-contemplative - they spend much of their time in contemplative prayer, while also serving simply in their apostolates. Highlighting Mary as the first and most perfect Adorer, the Sisters strive to follow the example of the Blessed Mother as both adorer and also companion at the foot of the cross, and even having a sense of self-offering. Their charism is summed up in proclaiming the two liftings of Christ: the first on the throne of the Cross, and the second in the Monstrance.

Founded by Jeanne Jugan, coming out of the French Revolution, it began as Jeanne simply bringing in a blind woman into her own house. Now serving across the world (Sr. Gemma serves in Spain), the Little Sisters of the Poor staff nursing homes, caring for the elderly while also supporting their dignity and inviting the residents to join them for daily Mass and Adoration, embracing their fourth vow of hospitality.

Adoration in the playground? Sr. Elfie del Rosario, FMA, elaborates on the Salesian charism and apostolate with youth, and how their day is structured to accommodate prayer. Beginning with women tailors who visited the Blessed Sacrament in the 1870's, the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco decided to help poor girls, while St. John Bosco fostered the boys. Though the modern world has changed, the Sisters' mission has not: presence with the youth, as it evolves with the times, while not becoming conformed to the world.

Behind the Scenes and God's Providence
What started as a Youth Learning Challenge project, has blossomed into a witness of God's Love and Providence. The Griptape Youth Learning Challenge is a program designed to give teens the financial resources to pursue a topic of interest, limiting the amount of adult instruction. With the intention of beginning a teen interview-based podcast with time for scripture reflection, I applied and received funds toward my project, which I put toward the purchase of a microphone, headphones, an inexpensive laptop, and a year of podcast hosting on Podbean. Ready to begin my project, I ran into problems in regard to copyright law. Devastated, I was given the suggestion by my mother, to begin a podcast interviewing Religious Orders. My vigor renewed, I began to contact different Orders that I knew of. After several polite responses of unavailability, and sometimes no response at all, I didn't know what to do. I have since learned that God just had different plans for my first few interviews. I made a simple and blunt prayer along the lines of "Okay God, whomever you send me in the mail next, that's who I will contact." We tend to receive mail from different Religious Organizations asking for donations, prayer intentions, and just their published newsletters. Within the week we received four organizations' mail, and after reaching out to them, three accepted my request for an interview. This whole project has been a learning experience, not only in regards to podcasting, but also trusting in God's Greater Plan. I hope that you will continue to join me on this journey.
A SPECIAL THANKS TO THE GRIPTAPE YOUTH LEARNING CHALLENGE, WHOM GOD ALLOWED TO MAKE THIS PROJECT POSSIBLE!
Check out the GripTape website for information about applying for their learning challenge.
